Senior Computer Vision Engineer - Road User Tracking from Overhead Sensors
MicroTraffic has helped 70 cities diagnose traffic safety problems by measuring near-misses from overhead video. We are a seed stage startup and winner of the 2021 SXSW Pitch - Smart Cities Category. In addition to helping cities to diagnose and fix traffic safety problems, we create edge case datasets that help self-driving companies better understand human risk behavior.
The first product that we built - an offline diagnostic snapshot tool that uses 3 days of overhead video - has triggered more than $225M of road safety improvement investments resulting in an average risk reduction of 80% at the subject intersections.
In this position, you will join a team that is strengthening our offline diagnostic snapshot tool, while also working on the next areas on our product roadmap: continuous edge diagnostics, and sensor fusion.
We are looking for candidates with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in engineering or computer science focused on computer vision with experience and expertise in the following areas:
-road user detection, classification, and tracking from overhead video
-sensor fusion with LIDAR and/or RADAR to augment video
-accurate spatial localization of road users in video
-tracking models that run in real time on the edge (that is, they are computationally efficient)
-tracking strategies that are robust in unfavorable video conditions such as full and partial occlusions, small and distant objects, stopped objects, and object groups... in general creating single continuous tracks for each road user
-classification of pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooters, wheelchair users, and multiple vehicle types
You will work with a team of computer vision engineers and be supported by in-house and outsourced data labelling and annotation to help you execute your model development, training, and testing strategies.
A strong research background is an asset but this is a product development focused position, so past experience leading teams involved in successful commercialization of computer vision tracking projects is highly sought after.
We are located in Canada and are particularly interested in candidates living in Canada. However, the job is open to remote work anywhere in the world.
The MicroTraffic team is united and driven by a desire to make an impact in road safety. If you fit the profile described above and would like to be part of this impact-focused team, please reach out.

The Computer Vision-Core Artificial Intelligence Research (Vision-CAIR) group of Prof. Mohamed Elhoseiny at the CS Program of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of computer vision, AI, and machine learning. The Research Vision-CAIR group performs research and develops computational approaches in the following research themes:
(a) learning efficiency, computational creativity (zero, few-shot, and long-tail learning of 2D and 3D vision tasks. This also includes efficient generative models that are capable of generating and understanding unseen art and fashion in 2D and 3D). We are also interested in Affective AI; check out our recent work.
(b) continual learning (e.g., alleviating catastrophic forgetting in various learning settings including recognition RL);
(c) vision and language (this overlaps with the former themes as 2D and 3D vision is often integrated with language).
Key requirements include good communication (verbal, writing, etc) and excellent publication record in high-quality journals and/or conference proceedings such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ECCV, Nature, TPAMI, AAAI. It is an opportunity to develop core algorithmic advances and aim at publishing them at these top venues. More details about the position can be found here.
